Ashok Singhal ji was born in 1926 at Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India and was the international working president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) until 2011. Under his leadership VHP scope and reach enhanced multiple fold. An organizational person with sharp oratory and leadership qualities, he has been a leader respected and adorned by national and international Hindu organizations. He was instrumental in increasing VHP scope at international geographies.
He holds Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Benaras Hindu University Institute of Technology in 1950. He joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since 1942, he became a full-time pracharak after graduation. In 1980, he became VHP general secretary. He is also a trained vocalist in Hindutani Music under the legendary Pandit Omkarnath Thakur.
He was a key organizer of the first VHP Dharma Sansad in 1984 held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, attracting hundreds of sadhus and Hindu notables to discuss the issues of rejuvenating Hinduism. The movement for reclaiming the Ramjanmabhoomi temple was born here.Singhal soon became the chief architect of the Ramjanmabhoomi movement.
