Petra Slancova’s Interview on her upcoming documentary ‘Loving message from spiritual masters of India’

Presenter and communication lecturer Petra Slancova has been working in the media since 2002. She has extensive experience with news, talk shows and radio.

Today, we will be talking about a personal journey of knowledge. About overcoming fears and comfort zones, thanks to that a new documentary movie has been created.

What actually led you to make the movie?

I think that our lives kind of lack a certain ease of being. Many people feel overwhelmed by the outside world. We desire for real inner fulfillment and look for answers to our questions. It no longer made sense for me to interview mostly politicians, and I was tempted to interview someone who had real wisdom, and his words had an impact. There are many different wise books, doctrines, and philosophies today, but they remain a theory until we truly begin to live them. Therefore, I liked the idea of bringing inspiration and new perspectives on the world as well as thinking about who we are and why we are here, which were the questions I was asking myself at the time, through an authentic movie.

Can you tell us about the whole process starting by planning to implementation?

In January 2016, I found out that Kumbh Mela will be held in India. The largest gathering of people in the world. It is a huge Hindu event that is regularly attended by millions of pilgrims. It is so huge that, according to National Geographic, it can even be seen from space. And I thought that it is a perfect environment for making a movie as well as for conversations with various spiritual masters. But I didn’t have much time to decide. The pilgrimage only takes place every 12 years, each time in one of the four cities from the legend. If I wanted to be there, I only had four months to get prepared. I didn’t know how to get a team, finances, or how to start. Thus began an adventure that lasted until the departure. And it also got into a completely different dimension later in India.

The whole project has lived its life from the beginning, and it is a kind of a tool of my self-knowledge. India taught me to let the plans go and not stick to them so much, which was not easy or pleasant at first. I was forced to face my fears and go beyond my mind. Only when I opened myself to the unknown, I began to trust my intuition and I allowed the movie to be made as it should, and not as I thought it should be made, everything exceeded my expectations. It was the best transformation school that affected not only me, but also the shooting itself. There can be nothing better than a movie called Yes to life, that has been created by life itself. 🙂

Please tell us more about the movie itself. What is its name, where can we find more information about it and at what stage the movie is in terms of the creative process?

The movie is called Yes to Life, Yes to Love. It is an authentic personal story of searching and discovering myself and my inner strength. It’s also a lot about going through obstacles and about the path to the heart. Of course, the spiritual masters I met while traveling in India also play an important role in it, and their wisdom complements the plot itself and creates a loving message for today’s world.

So far, we have a feature-length working version of the movie, which has been seen by several dozen people during a private projection. We needed feedback to find out how they liked the movie and what we should change. And I have to say that the reactions were amazing. Almost everyone agreed that the projected material spoke to their hearts and gave everyone their personal message.

What is the main message of the movie that you want to refer to the public?

In life, we make decisions out of fear or love. Decisions out of fear weaken us, they take us away from love. And nowadays, fear surrounds us on all sides. The message of the movie is definitely to awaken the best that we have inside of us. And the name Yes to life, Yes to love speaks for itself. When we say this big YES, the world will change. We will change our view of the world, no matter where on the planet we live. As Mahatma Ghandi said, “If you want to change the world, start with yourself.”

Each of us is different and yet we all want the same thing – to be happy.

What did the shooting and the trip to India itself give you, and what did it take away from you?

India gave me many unforgettable experiences and by far the greatest adventure of my life. It helped me look at myself with different eyes. To get out of the comfort zone and go through a change from a naive European who needed to have everything under control into a woman who is open to changes and to what is coming. It also taught me not to judge, but rather experience and accept life in the present moment.

And finally, what are your plans and visions for the future?

From the very beginning, the documentary was created from my own financial resources and thanks to the contribution of sponsors. And I feel it’s time to finish it now. Therefore, I decided to raise funds for the final post-production phase through a campaign on the Indiegogo platform, which will begin in mid-January 2022. I would also like to offer it to international film festivals and project it where there might be an interest. I believe the film can appeal to audiences around the world.

My podcasts called From Mind to Heart will also have a connection to the movie and self-knowledge. I plan to launch the first one in January 2022.
