Sarva Jatiya Samuhik Vivah (Hindu Community Group Marriage), co-supported by Rotary Club Jaipur Dignity, took place on 23rd Jan in Jaipur. The event’s main organizers were Sanatan Seva Trust (Rajasthan), Hindu Yuva Vahni (Jaipur), and Punjabi Samaj Seva Samiti. 15 couples were married at this ceremony. Marriage was conducted as per Hindu tradition, rituals and process, under which Toran (a traditional Indian decorative door hanging, primarily hung on the main entrance of homes, temples, and offices during festivals, weddings, and auspicious occasions.’, Ghodchadi, (traditional Hindu wedding ceremony where the groom mounts a decorated horse to embark on his journey to the wedding venue) Jaymala (wedding garland), Fere (ceremonial rounds taken around a sacred fire during a Hindu wedding), followed by an emotional farewell to the newly wed couple.
This event was organized by installing huge domes in the huge open space of Sector 7, Vidyadhar Nagar, Jaipur. Most of the essential household items were gifted to all the newlyweds. Refreshments and food were served to the guests during the program. A total of 1500 people, including relatives of the couples and co-organizing organizations, participated in the ceremony. Harish Khatri (President, Punjabi Samaj Seva Samiti & founding member of Jaipur Dignity club), Pradeep Khatri (President, Rotary Club Jaipur Dignity), Sandeep Dingra (President-elect, Rotary Club Jaipur Dignity), and many other social dignitaries graced the event.
Hindu community group marriages (samuhik vivah) are often facilitated by NGOs and trusts that regularly aim to support underprivileged families, promote social harmony, and reduce extravagant wedding expenses, while focusing on traditional Vedic rituals.
