Hindu spiritual fair inaugurated

The 7th annual Hindu Spiritual and Service Fair, being held in the city from February 3 to 9, was inaugurated in the city on Tuesday.

The fair will be held at Agurchand Manmull Jain College in Meenambakkam. Various religious leaders took part in the inaugural event.

More than 320 stalls have been set up by religious centres from across the country. A total of 12 lakh visitors are expected to visit the fair this year, compared to 9 lakh last year.

Speaking at the event, B.K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, chairperson of the organising committee, said real Indian culture still thrives in villages.

“A synergy between the concepts of country, god and righteousness is needed. Spirituality can do this,” he said. He also highlighted the importance of religion in the development of society.

Muthukumara Swamy Thampiran Swamigal of Thiruppanandal adheenam, Guru Ji Kenting Tai Situpa XII Chamgon, supreme head of Palpung Monastis Institution–Vajrayana Buddhism, Acharya Roopchandra, founder president of Manav Mandir Mission Trust, New Delhi, and Balbir Singh Lota, general secretary of Sri Guru Nanak Sat Sangh Sabha, Gurudwara, Chennai, also attended the event.

The fair, instituted in 2009, has been focussing on protecting forests and wildlife, fostering respect for women and girl children, promoting patriotism and instilling reverence for parents and teachers.
