Temple expected to be submerged in water in four to five days

With Krishna river water entering the historic Sangameswaram temple in Atmakur mandal in the district, temple priest and Vedic pundit Telakapalli Raghurama Sarma performed Sikhara, Kalasa and Jaladurga Homam and Maha Mangala Harathi and ended the 120-day-long Varuna yagam on Saturday. Sri Raghurama Sarma completed the varuna yagam with poornahuthi and within a short while, water from the confluence of seven rivers entered the sanctum sanctorum submerging Sri Sangameswara Vepadaru Sivalingam and the idol of Sri Lalitha Devi.

Earlier, he decorated the temple sikharam with paddy seed and variety of flowers. Wishing that the Srisailam reservoir level reaches its full reservoir level of 885 feet, the priest performed abhishekam of the temple gopuram with 885 kalasams. Rayalaseema region could draw water when the reservoir level reaches 854 feet. The Sangameswaram temple has been accessible to devotees for the last seven months.
