Volunteers of Hindu Munnani on Monday blocked traffic on the Kottakuppam Road protesting against a liquor shop situated near a temple in Muthialpet.

The volunteers led by Hindu Munnani state president Sunilkumar said that liquor shops in residential areas were a big nuisance. As per rules, a liquor shop cannot be set up close to religious places and schools.

Sentiments hurt

The presence of this shop has hurt the sentiments of people and it should be removed soon, he said. Police officials rushed to the spot and pacified them following which they withdrew their protest.
