Miscreants desecrated six idols at a temple in Satkhira Sadar upazila early today, hours before start of the Durga Puja, the biggest Hindu religious festival.
The broken idols were of Durga and Ganesh at Babulia Temple in Babulia village, a Satkhira stringer reports quoting witnesses.
Locals discovered the desecration around 5:30am, said Uttam Kumar Pal, acting general secretary of the temple management committee.
On information, Deputy Commissioner Nazmul Ahsan, Additional Superintendent of Police Mir Modasser Hossain visited the spot, said Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Emdad Sheikh, who also visited the spot.
“We are investigating the incident,” the OC said adding that additional police forces were deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident.
