The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the large majority of participants are not Hindus, but Mormons. Thousands of students from nearby Brigham Young University come to take part in a festival that is drug and alcohol free. The event stems from a Hindu tradition celebrating the end of winter and the triumph of good over evil.
