Dal activist Rajesh Poojary was murdered at Kalpane of Kallige village in Bantwal on March 21. A team led by Bantwal town police had arrested Irshad, 21, Imran, 20 and Hussain, 20, residents of Mullur village, in connection with the incident.
Parents and relatives of Irshad, Imran and Hussain told reporters at the DYFI district committee office that the three youths are innocent. Nabisa, Mohammed Asif (mother and brother of Irshad) and Imran’s mother Shahida said police have arrested their kin “under pressure.”
DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla said: “Slain Rajesh’s wife HS Pallavi has mentioned the names of P Musthafa, Ajeez, residents of Addoor, and another unidentified person as accused/ suspected, and their names have been recorded in the FIR too (TOI has the copy of the FIR). However, police arrested Irshad, Imran and Hussain. We urge the Dakshina Kannada district police to conduct a detailed investigation, arrest the real culprits and release the arrested youth.” DYFI will hold a protest near the deputy commissioner’s office on May 27.
The rally will commence from the Town Hall premises at 3.30pm on May 27 and a meet will be held near the DC’s office.
