Bajrang Dal complains against writer UR Ananthamurthy

imagesMANGALORE: A complaint has been lodged against noted writer UR Ananthamurthy for alleged derogatory reference to local spirits (Panjurli) in his book titled ‘Bettale pooje yake madabaradu.’

In a complaint lodged at the Mangalore North police station on Thursday by Bajrang DalSuraksha Pramukh Punit Kottari from Attavar, stated that the writer has hurt his religious sentiments by writing in the book (page no. 37) that he had urinated on stone, which locals believed as the Panjurli spirit. The complaint has also named Vasanth Prakashana, Bangalore urging police to take legal action against them.

Prof MB Puranik, prantya working president and Sharan Pumpwell, prantya convener, said they would not tolerate lampooning or making derogatory remarks or references against Hindu gods or their beliefs.

Reacting to the complaint lodged against him, Ananthamurthy said the organization has not read his book, which was published 20 years ago. The complaint filed is meaningless to me. Those who have filed the complaint will not read the book also as they are intolerant,” he added.
