Bangladesh HC orders aid for Bangram Hindus

Government asked to pay over Tk43 lakh as compensation

The High Court has directed the government on Sunday to pay over Tk43 lakh as compensation for the affected Hindu community of Santhia upazila, Pabna.

The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain directed authorities to pay Tk4,342,000 to the community in three weeks.

Earlier in November last year, this bench had directed authorities to arrest the perpetrators of the attack on Hindus in Bangram area of the upazila.

In November, the Hindu community in Bangram area, Santhia was attacked because of an alleged derogatory Facebook post regarding Prophet Muhammad.

Scores of Hindu houses were attacked, looted and their shops vandalised in the mayhem of November 2.
