Bangladesh: Leader executed, Jamaat cadre vandalise Hindu homes

Hours after the execution of senior fundamentalist Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah on Thursday night for genocide during Bangladesh’s 1971 liberation war, Jamaat-Shibir activists beat an Awami League leader in Satkhira to death and torched over 100 houses in Nilphamari and Satkhira area.

The activists beat former president of Gopinathpur union of Awami League, Azizur Rahman to death at his village home in Satkhira around midnight, said police.

According to a Daily Star report Jamaat-Shibir activists blocked Nilphamari-Domar road and vandalise the houses of local Awami League leaders and Hindus at Beltali bazar around 2:00am.

The attackers reportedly torched the house of Laxmichap union Awami League president Shyam Charan Roy. They also roughed up with his family members.

Following the incident, Shyam Charan was admitted to nearby hospital.
