Boost Intel, Save Hindu Leaders: Hindu Munnani (HM)

HinduMunnaniVELLORE: The State and the Central governments should strengthen the police intelligence system to protect Hindu leaders from being targeted by Islamic fundamentalists, said N Muruganandam, State organiser  of the Hindu   Munnani (HM).

He made this plea while addressing the press here on Tuesday.

He said that a closer look at the murder of the HM leader Suresh Kumar in Chennai recently revealed that there were similarities between the way he and other Hindu leaders such as Vellaiappan, district organiser of Vellore district, who was murdered in Vellore last year.

The pattern was almost similar, indicating the the handiwork of fundamentalists, who were bent on eliminating Hindu leaders, he added. The State government should stop soft-pedaling on the issue of protecting the lives of Hindu leaders, while appeasing members of a particular community, he said. “We want the government to put an end to this kind of attack on Hindu leaders,” he added.

Muruganandam said that to commemorate the first death anniversary of Vellaiappan, the HM is organising a State-level conference in Vellore on July 1. The meet would be presided over by the founder of the HM Rama Gopalan.

The focus of the conference would be to pay homage to the slain Hindu leaders, oppose the Islamic fundamentalism, demand the government to identify the killers of the Hindu leaders and take strigent action on them  and ban fundamentalist outfits.

On July 20, the HM would organise a State- wide agitation to free the temples from collecting fee for darshan, Muruganandam said adding that it was against the Constitution to allow the State to administer Hindu temples. He said, a writ petition in this regard had also been filed recently.

The HM leaders said there were complaints from residents of Narayanapuram near Ratnagiri against a private hospital here that had purchased large tracts of lands in the villages and had built a compound wall around them. That had posed problems to the villagers. The State government should intervene in this matter and sort the issue out, he added. District organiser of HM Mahesh was present on the occasion.
