Cabinet likely to restore allotted land to RSS affiliated bodies

RSSNEW DELHI: The Cabinet is likely to approve restoring allotment of land to nearly two dozen organisations affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Wednesday.

Though the allotments had taken place between 1998 and 2004, these were cancelled by the UPA government soon after it came to power. Some of the organisations that were allotted land included Samarth Shiksha Samiti, Akhil Bhartiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Bhartiya Kisan sangh, Sewa Bharti and Swadeshi Jagran Foundation.
As per the Cabinet proposal, the cancellation orders will be withdrawn provided the organisations withdraw their plea against the cancellation in the Delhi High Court. Sources said, the organisations have already informed the urban development ministry to withdraw their cases.

The government has decided to restore the plots after a two-member team found the reason for cancellation as unjustified. The UPA government had cancelled the allotment based on the report of a one-man inquiry committee by Yogesh Chandra, who had found violation of norms in allotment of land during the NDA regime.
