Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | Bengaluru | 6 Feb 2015:: While, the huge foreign funded CCBI (Conference of the Catholic Bishops of India) has overtly expressed the Re-conversion phobia, at the same time it has taken a strong resolution in favour conversion in their annual congregation in Bengaluru.

Expressing their ‘deep anguish’ over attacks on Churches and “Ghar Waspsi” programme of Dharma Jagran Manch and other Sangh Parivar outfits, the Conference of the Catholic Bishops of India today said such incidents have raised concerns about a planned programme to undermine the Christian community as “second class” citizens in the country. The CCBI expressed this view even as the Bishops held a protest march in the city covering a distance of about one km with hundreds of people also joining them.

“We, the 140 Bishops from across the country attending the 27th Plenary Assembly of the Conference of the Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), hereby express our deep anguish and concern over increasing threats to peace and communal harmony in the wake of various untoward incidents affecting Christian community in different parts of the country,” a statement released by the CCBI said at the end of its meet. Hardly a day has passed off in recent months without reports of attacks on Christians, Churches and Christian institutions from across the nation, it said.

Sources say that while a section of media asked why they are not abandoning the alleged forceful conversion of poor Hindus into Christianity, they say ‘it is their religious right’. But when chased with the next question, then why they are opposing ‘Gharwapsi’ or ‘Reconversion’, then the same spokespersons of CCBI instantly replied, ‘it is a case of violation of Christian Rights’.

When media asked what is the target what is CCBI’s target to covert the Hindus in 2015, they ask the media promptly, ‘Do you know, Dr Praveen Togadia has declared 50 lakh conversion in a year? We must do more baptization than that effectively’.

So, now it is a tug of war between Conversion and Reconversion. While Christians want to uproot Hindus by conversion, the RSS/VHP/Dharma Jagran Manch want to retunn back to their own people to original root through Gharwapsi programmes.

In a Press statement CCBI urges, “Churches have been torched even in the national capital while reports of ‘Ghar Waspsi’ and blatant threats to hold mass reconversions are causing anxiety to the Christians scattered in the far corners of the nation,” it added. The bishops said “amid canards being spread and open threats against religious minorities by belligerent groups and their leaders, even elected representatives of people have made shocking statements brazenly challenging the freedom of conscience guaranteed by the Constitution of India under Article 25 (1) “We are distressed over divisive steps from passing of resolutions to banning Christian practices at village level to an aborted national level bid to keep educational institutions open even on Christmas Day.”

“Such concerted efforts at different levels raise concerns of a planned programme to undermine the Christian community as second class citizens in our motherland where the community has made immense contributions in the field of education, healthcare and social service even in the remote hinterlands,” the statement added.

But, the local VHP leaders told the HENB that ‘while Christian Churches have converted more than 80,000 people in 2014 as per their claim, the Hindu organisations could only 30,000 reconversion at the same time.  The people who are going to the Christianity fold usually face acute financial problem after one year of conversion when they stop the dole or help from Church.  As Church authorities are actually failed to maintain the sustainable development, all the converted people realize their fault and urges for reconversion”.

Earlier, a Central VHP leader told HENB that ‘the economic and social condition of Muslims are more vulnerable than Hindus. So, the Christian organisation should give more stress to convert Muslims in Christianity, if they so interested to run their unethical agenda. Not, the Hindus. A strong law against forceful or allured conversion must be enacted with immediate effect’.

As per VHP estimation,  Conversion will be stopped in India within 2 years next.
