Developer, Hindu center reach detention pond agreement

MERRILLVILLE— Craig Van Prooyen of CVP Development Inc. and members of the Hindu Cultural Center told the Merrillville Plan Commission they’ve come to an agreement regarding a detention pond.

The pond will serve CVP’s Hunter’s Glen North duplex development at 86th Avenue and Merrillville Road and the adjacent cultural center.

The center wanted to make sure the pond would be large enough to serve any future expansion needs it has.

Plan Commission members said they wouldn’t approve the development and the town wouldn’t agree to pay for the extension of 86th Avenue to accommodate the subdivision until the matter was resolved.

Representatives for the developer and Hindu center have been meeting for months to work out the details.

The 31 duplexes will be built in four different styles, including one that has two stories.
