CLINTON — Approximately 100 people came to St. Boniface Center on Tuesday to hear about the world’s oldest religion.
Understanding Interfaith Connections to Peace began this week as Jitendra Vaidya spoke to a group about Hinduism and its foundations of peace. Vaidya, a member of the Quad City Hindu Temple, began the first in a series of Peace Soup talks by asking, “What is the purpose of any religion? To help fulfill the purpose of life.”
“Tolerance is one of the biggest virtues of Hinduism,” Vaidya said. “Many consider it sheepish, but India is tolerant. We respect all other religions.”
Vaidya was accompanied by Hindu Priest Acharya Balaji and Quad City Hindu Temple President Kirti Baketi.
The Peace Soup series continues next week with Camanche native April Wise at 6 p.m. at the St. Boniface Center in Clinton. Wise is a Buddhist practicing in the New Kadampa tradition at the Lamrim Buddhist Center in Davenport.
