Summary of the proposed work:
This interdisciplinary research and teaching project has several clearly-defined goals. The overarching theme is to increase understanding of transplant tolerance in a large cohort of patients undergoing kidney transplantation. Specifically, to evaluate and analyze the nature of achieving clinical tolerance in living renal transplantation using co-transplantation of donor adipose-tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells and hematopoietic stem cells with clonal deletion, associated with generation of peripheral T-regulatory cells. The second goal is to give seminars on the principles and practice of organ transplantation. The emphasis of these lectures will be on transplant tolerance. The third goal is to establish long-term collaboration with the host institute.
Host Institute: HL Trivedi Institute of Transplantation Sciences, Ahmedabad, India. This institute performs about 400 kidney transplants a year and has developed innovative transplant tolerance models. Link: http://www.ikdrc-its.org/
