PUNE: ‘Haritamritam ‘a green initiative of Mata Amritanandamayi Math is going to be launched in Pune on World Environment Day on June 5 at Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Nigdi-Yamunanagar in Pimpri Chinchwad. Haritamritam is a green initiative on organic terrace gardening by Amrita Yuva Dharma Dhara (AYUDH), the youth wing of Mata Amritanandamayi Math aiming to spread the culture of organic terrace farming to 5,000 families in one year. The volunteers of AYUDH have got the inspiration from Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (known to millions simply as ‘Amma’ or Mother).Amma says, “Each family should plant a vegetable garden so that members of that family can eat vegetables grown organically at least once a week. Even apartment residents can grow vegetables in window boxes and on terraces.
This relationship with nature will give us a new vitality.”Haritamritam aims to help people understand and appreciate the importance of healthy organic food. Members of AYUDH will help develop the knowledge and skills of Haritamritam participants by conducting demonstrations, workshops so that they will be knowledgeable enough to start their own organic garden at home. Pune citizens who wish to participate in Haritamritam’s Organic Terrace Garden workshops may contact 09970910266.MP Shrirang Barne, former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Maharashtra Arvind K.
