Criminals vandalised and looted the house of a Hindu family at Harirampur Sahapara village in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur district yesterday.


Some local influential people vandalised and looted a house of a Hindu family on a khas land in an alleged bid to grab the land at Harirampur Sahapara village under Parbatipur upazila yesterday.
During the attack, they beat up four members of the family, leaving them injured. The injured are Niba Rani, 55, wife of Hridoy Chandra Roy, their son Swapan Chandra Roy, 26, daughters in-law Purnima Rani Roy, 25 and Aroti Rani Roy 22.
The injured were admitted to Holdibari Health Complex in the upazila.
Locals said Hridoy Chandra Roy along with family members has been living on an eight decimals of khas land for 20 years at the village.
Some influential people of the area, including Robi Master, Shahadat Hossain, Md Jaman and Shakhwat Hossain, tried several times to evict the family from the land, but failed, locals said.
At around 3:00pm yesterday, an armed gang led by Robi Master, Shahadat Hossain, Md Jaman and Shakhwat Hossain swooped on the house, vandalised it and injured four members of the family.
The attackers looted valuables from the house, claimed Niba Rani, one of the victims. They filed a complaint with Parbatipur Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge Nasir Uddin Mondol of the police station told this correspondent that he was aware of the incident.
After investigation, necessary steps will be taken against the persons involved, the OC said.
Contacted, Robi Master said no such incident took place at the village.
