Wife of Hindu Rashtra Samiti chief, Dhananjay Desai, to contest from Hadapsar

In a bid to capture votes from the extreme right of the political spectrum, the Hindu Rashtra Sena (HRS), has said it will step into Maharashtra’s electoral fray for the first time.

The radical Hindu outfit was responsible for inciting violent protests over controversial Facebook posts which culminated in the brutal murder of IT professional Mohsin Shaikh in June this year.

Announcing her candidacy from the sensitive Hadapsar seat in the coming Assembly elections, Rasika Desai, wife of jailed HRS chief Dhananjay Desai, said the party would soon publish its election agenda from Mumbai.

The party will have the conch as its symbol and field around 30 candidates from various constituencies in Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Thane and Mumbai, she said.

Following the HRS announcement, the right-wing Muslim party, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul-Muslimeen said it would field 30 candidates in the State to match the HRS.
