Hindu temples urged to be more OKU-friendly

The Malaysia Hindu Dharma Maamandram has advised temple management committees in the country to ensure that their temples are disabled-friendly, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The organisation held its sixth annual joint ponggal celebration with the Damai Disabled Persons Association at the Bangsar Rama­lingeshvarar Temple on Sun-day.

The event saw the participation of many wheelchair-bound and other disabled Indians, who cooked the traditional ponggal and participated in cultural games.

> A student in a Kulai Tamil school suffered a broken finger after being caned by a teacher.

According to Makkal Osai, the teacher reportedly caned the student on his right hand for not paying attention in class.

When the boy experienced excruciating pain in his hand after the caning, he was sent to the district hospital.

Doctors who treated the pupil reportedly said that one of his fingers was broken.
