Rajinikanth in ‘Endhiran’ movie
A poster created by Rajinikanth fans to celebrate his birthday on 12 December has stirred up a controversy.Superstar reportedly had a quite birthday in Bangalore last week. However, that didn’t stop his fans from celebrating their thalaivar’s (leader) birthday. Rajini’s fans celebrated his birthday by doing poojas for the well-being of the actor, welfare activities as well as sticking posters to wish the superstar.
One such poster has landed the actor in trouble. The poster shows Rajini standing in queue to cast his vote with Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva towing in line behind him. The poster also reads a message in Tamil saying: “Aandavanum Vottu Poduvan Thalaivaa, Nee Arasiyallukku Vandhaal” (Even Gods will cast their vote, if you join politics)
Apparently, this did not go down well with certain sections of people. Vishwa Hindu Parishad, a religious outfit, has lodged a complaint citing that the poster hurts the religious sentiments. The members of VHP have also stated that they will take up the issue with Tamil Nadu chief minister.
Fans have been urging superstar to join politics, but the actor has always evaded that subject.
Rajini, who entered the Tamil film industry in 1975, continues to rule the box office even after 38 years. The actor’s 2010-release “Endhiran” (“Robot”) in which he played the role of a scientist and a robot was a big hit. He was supposed to start a new film with director KS Ravikumar, but the film had to be dropped due to Rajini’s health issues.
After recovering from his illness, the superstar began shooting for his upcoming film “Kochadaiiyaan”, directed by his second daughter Soundarya. The film, touted as India’s first 3D film to use motion capturing technology, is expected to release in April 2014.
