ALIGARH: At a ‘shivir’ (camp) held by Vishwa Hindu Parishad for members of the organisation’s women’s wing at Durga Vahini here, more than 150 girls were given advice on how to deal with ‘love jihad’. Along with training in firearms and sticks, the girls were cautioned about keeping Muslim boys at an arm’s length. The six-day ‘Shaurya Prashikshan Shivir’ at the Saraswati Shishu Mandir here, got over on Monday. In a parallel to the Bajrang Dal camp at Faizabad on May 14, the teenage girls dressed in white with saffron dupattas were taught what the organisers termed as “self defence”.At the Aligarh camp, guns were very much in evidence, with the girls given lessons in shooting air rifles as well as wielding sticks.
“The camp has been organised annually for the past 25 years. The girls are trained to defend themselves against attackers. In fact, this goes with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘beti bachao beti padhao’,” said Tej Prakash Sharma, city leader of the VHP.According to Sharma, self defence includes “protection from Muslim boys”.
