Loudoun Board of Supervisors officially condemned the anti-Hindu vandalism in Ashburn.
Supervisor Matthew Letourneau (R-Dulles) put forward a motion at the end the Oct. 1 Board Business Meeting to condemn the acts as well as urge the public to help law officials in apprehending those responsible.
“The Indian community of Loudoun is vibrant and thriving and a very important part of our fabric,” Letourneau said. “And so it’s just terribly unfortunate to see something like this going on that does not represent what we [the county] are about, and I think members of the community know that.”
The motion passed unanimously, and members of the board voiced their personal concerns over the incidents.
“I think it’s very clear that the leaders of this county…will not accept any kind of hatred like this against any group whatsoever,” said Supervisor Ken Reid (R-Leesburg).
An emergency town hall meeting will be held Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Creighton’s Corner Elementary School in Ashburn to address the vandalism.
Local officials and law enforcement will answer the public’s questions and discuss the incidents and the action being taken to find the person or persons responsible.
