The Jullundur Brigade was made up of Indian and British soldiers from The Manchester Regiment – now part of The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.

A party of over 200 military, religious leaders and young people from all over the North West attended a service for the fallen held at the Indian Army Memorial at Neuve Chapelle.

Many also attended the “Last Post” Ceremony at the Menin Gate.

The trip was made possible through funding from the the Armed Forces Community Covenant Grant Scheme. Prahladbhai Nayee, Umedlal Parmar, Vijayanti Chauhan, Balvantrai Panchal, Kantilal Mistry and Mohanbhai Parmar represented the Indian community.

A spokesman said: “It was an honour but also an emotional moment for us as we stood side by side with friends from the regiment, civil leaders, school children, and other representatives of ethnic and religious communities.”
