NYC Hindu leaders upset over not including Diwali as holiday

At least 51 persons, most of them belonging to Christian community embraced Hinduism at nearby Kurichi on Easter on Sunday.

Twenty five men and 26 women converted to Hinduism in the reconversion ritual organised by Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP), organisers of the programme said. VHP district secretary PK Gopalakrishnan claimed that it was not a forced conversion and the people belonging to 20 families embraced Hinduism on their own. “We are just facilitators. There is no force,” Gopalakrishnan told PTI.

A few months ago the New Delhi edition of ‘The Times of India’ of January 22, 2015, had published a news of highly doubtful veracity proclaiming that according to Census 2011 the Muslim population in India had grown by merely 24 percent. It was further highlighted that the growth rate of Muslim population was lower than the decadal Muslim growth rate of census 2001, though it was higher than the average national growth rate of 18 percent for all communities.

A few weeks back on 14th March, West Bengal took a step back in its progress for women empowerment and gender equality when a misogynistic ‘fatwa’ issued by fundamentalists cancelled a women’s football match at Harishchandrapur,Malda. The football match was organized by Progressive Youth Club of Chandipur village in Harishchandrapur police station area as a part of their golden jubilee celebrations and the block administration had earlier given permission for the football match.
