A meet with Scavengers

Mambalam-seva (1)On the eve of Swami Vivekananda Birthday celebrations, a meet with Scavengers at Ward Office No.133, Chennai Corporation at West Mambalam was held. Shri Sambamurth ji initiated casual discussions about their daily livelihood, challenges faced in their work, atmosphere at home etc.  They expressed that they were not able to give much attention to home as they have to start early in the morning by 4.00 a.m. to reach the work place by 6 a.m. for duty. In spite of all hurdles, they felt happy that they were able to educate their children in colleges.  ‘Your duty is to clean the dirt and that is why you are paid’ – this was the attitude of the people before.  But now, cleanliness awareness can be seen among the people and celebrities and they come forward to participate in keeping the place clean.  Further, treating them as human beings and part of the society will motivate them to work more, they added.
