Nadia is a communally sensitive district with a Muslim population suspected to have crossed 40 percent of the total population, as per Census 2011 figures (yet undisclosed for religious demography).
Reportedly, large scale violence is being perpetrated on the Hindus of Mallikpur village under Falta police station in South 24 Parganas district. The incident started on 19 April evening after a car of a Moulvi hit a villager.
That night, Muslims attacked the Sardarpara (SC Hindu locality) of that village and severely damaged 3 Hindu houses and one club named Saraswati Sporting Club.
Yesterday Falta Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mr. Prasenjit Das convened a peace meeting between 2 communities. Both side pledged to maintain peace and harmony. But all assurances were in vain.
Today, at 2 PM, about 400 Muslims led by Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s Mallikpur Anchal President Lataul Hossain Mollah, attacked the Sardar Para of Mallikpur village with lethal arms.
- We have got report from the area that large scale damage, loot and arson of Hindu properties, torture and molestation of SC Hindu women have been done there.
- Many Hindus injured. More than 100 Hindus fled from the village.
- As per report, 50 Hindu houses of Sardarpara and 10 big shops owned by Hindus of Mallikpur market have been looted and damaged.
- About 20 Hindu houses have been gutted. Cattle have been looted.
- The shops looted of : Bibek Kole’s medicine store, Mrityunjoy Mandal’s ration shop, Deepak Purkait’s grocery shop, Ajit Dey’s hardware shop, and others.
- The Hindu houses looted and damaged of are – Nabin Mandal, Kanai Sardar, Kishori Bhakta, Tapan Sardar, Madan Sardar, Asta Sardar, Netai Sardar and others.
- Subhas Sardar is seriously injured. He has been taken to hospital by a police ambulance.
Till now, police arrested 6 Hindus and 6 Muslims. Now reportedly many Muslims from Mograhat and Kolkata are heading towards the village. Hence Hindus are extremely scared.
Hindus of this Mallikpur village are attached to VHP. They joined the VHP rally in Kolkata held on 20th December 2014 and addressed by Sri Mohan Rao Bhagwat and Dr. Pravin Bhai Togadia.
