Delhi polls: RSS mobilises cadre to ensure BJP’s victory

Flag_of_Rashtriya_Swayamsevak_SanghNew Delhi: Worried after every pre-poll survey predicted that Delhi is slipping out of the BJP’s hands, around 84 full time Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteers are working with BJP booth coordinators and panna pramukhs to get the maximum votes for the party.

Full time workers or Purnakaliks of the RSS have been assigned one assembly constituency each to monitor. They are men in their late 50s and hail from states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Arvind Kotegar, an RSS pracharak said, “A pracharak like me is unmarried and devoted completely to the Sangh. A purnakalik may or may not be married, but is a full time sangh worker who gets sent on assignments but with breaks to be with family in between.”

A Panna pramukh is given the responsibility of 70 families and details of the mandal, his booth and phone numbers of the voters are maintained in a paper.

But the job of purnakalik involves beginning work at 9 am and reaching out to at least 50 families everyday.

“We tell them to vote for the country. Vote for a party, leader who will take our country to different heights. We talk to them about their problems, try to provide help,” said Gaurav Bhatwale, a pracharak from Haryana.

Analysts have it that their effort to ensure voters go to polling booths and vote is often cited as one among many other reasons for BJP’s victory in the Lok Sabha Elections.
