The Hindu community in Cape Town has paid a moving tribute to former President Nelson Mandela. Mandela died at his Houghton home last week.
The Hindu Association of South Africa held the memorial service at the Samaj Centre in Athlone, outside Cape Town. Dozens of people from the Hindu community came together to honour and celebrate the former president’s legacy.
The Hindu Association says it will continue to keep the Madiba magic alive.
Children also paid tribute to the late father of the nation saying they derive inspiration from his story of bringing freedom to South Africa.
Former Deputy Justice Minister, Johnny de Lange, says while Mandela was an African National Congress (ANC) leader, he was also prepared to be led by others. He says current ANC leaders will continue to be guided by Madiba’s moral values.
