Indonesia showing Hindu Ramayana inspired art exhibition

downloadNational Gallery of Indonesia (Galeri Nasional Indonesia) in Jakarta is currently holding an exhibition of digital artworks inspired by ancient Hindu text Ramayana.

This solo exhibition of Spanish artist Nonia de la Rosa reportedly contains 25 digitally painted pictures and shall run till July 14. She came across Ramayana during her 2012 journey to India, and Indonesia became second stop in her further search, thus finally resulting in ancient Ramayana becoming the fundamental inspiration for these artworks, reports suggest.

Applauding National Gallery of Indonesia for this Ramayana inspired exhibition, distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that art had a long and rich tradition in Hinduism and ancient Sanskrit literature talked about religious paintings of deities on wood or cloth.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, urged major art museums of the world; including Musee du Louvre and Musee d’Orsay of Paris, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Los Angeles Getty Center, Uffizi Gallery of Florence (Italy), Art Institute of Chicago, Tate Modern of London, Prado Museum of Madrid, National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, etc.; to frequently organize Hindu art focused exhibitions, thus sharing the rich Hindu art heritage with the rest of the world.

Tubagus ‘Andre’ Sukmana is the Director of Indonesia National Gallery, which officially opened in 1999. Loreto Fdez de Garaizabal (Spain) and Heru Hikayat (Indonesia) are the curators of this exhibition.
