Subject: Nip It In The Bud
We are today by and large quite seized with what is best described as Islamist threat—be that by deliberate design or as emerging, specially since the declaration of the Islamic Caliphate.
That this threat is now knocking at the door and its implications are expanding has become obvious with the Bangalore police having succeeded in arresting the mole masquerading as an tech-engineer in the city for long. The possibility of many more such moles quietly operating in every part of the country is easy to anticipate and is even apprehended.
So is the need for nipping, (perhaps preventing) the threat from the Islamic State. This has been cogently brought out in the lead editorial in “The Pioneer” of date (December 16). While that is attached, let us here read together the concluding paragraph:
“Moreover, it is not just the IS that is looking to expand beyond the Levant and into India; Al Qaeda has announced the opening of a unit dedicated to inflicting terror in the Indian sub-continent, with India as a special target. From across the border, the Lashkar-e-Tayyeba and its avatars are already active and seeking to bleed this country with a thousand cuts. Given the many tragic moments India has faced due to terrorism, even a so-called small attempt to promote terror by individuals acting supposedly on their own must be taken with gravity and dealt with accordingly.”
Friends, let us not leave the matter to the authorities alone. It is important enough to be taken up by all of us.
