Pro-BNP lawyers want probe on attacks on Hindu communities

Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum (JAF), a body of pro-BNP lawyers, yesterday urged the government to appoint a retired Supreme Court judge for investigating the recent incidents of attacks on Hindu communities and also for trying and punishing the perpetrators.
The heinous attacks were made on the people of Hindu community with an aim to divert the movement for cancellation of the voter-less January 5 general polls, said Zainul Abedin, president of JAF’s Supreme Court unit.
He was reading from a written statement at a press conference in the media room of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
Zainul Abedin said those who have taken oath as lawmakers in the voter-less election were not elected by the people.
They took oath for the 10th parliament without dissolving ninth parliament, which is against the constitution, he said.
He also demanded release of all detained lawyers including Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Rafiqul Islam Mia immediately.
