Sidney Stringer Academy celebrated Diwali and Guru Nanak Devji’s birthday.
Staff and members of the local community came together to celebrate in style.
The festivities kicked off with Mrs Tomes welcoming all to the Academy.
The Aarti and Sikh Ardas were carried out which was followed by performances from Rashmi, Rama, Panna, Bhumika, Priya Rayall, Ikra Zahoor, Tara Zahoor and Mirfat Ali.
Diwali is a festival of lights celebrated by both Hindus and Sikhs. Hindus celebrate the return of Rama and Sita from the forest as they were exiled for 14 years. It celebrates the good over evil as Rama fought Ravan.
The following day after Diwali is the Hindu New Year. Gifts are exchanged and candles are lit to welcome the Goddess of Wealth Laxmi into the homes.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji is the first Guru of the Sikh religion and his birthday is celebrated by prayers at the Gurdwara.
