NEW DELHI: Two Rajasthan legislators might be in trouble in connection with the September 2011 Gopalgarh (Rajasthan) riots as the CBI is planning to arrest the two MLAs along with another 36 people. The agency’s top brass said that they have completed the investigations into the Gopalgarh riots, in which 10 Meo Muslims were killed and they have found sufficient evidence and statements against the MLAs.
The MLAs – Congress’s Zahida Khan from Kaman constituency and BJP’s Anita Singh from Nagar (Bharatpur district in Rajasthan) — sources say — might be arrested soon. CBI has already recorded their statements and several witnesses in the case. The agency officials say they have found evidence against the MLAs and others in the communal violence case, in which 10 Meo Muslims were killed and others were injured on September 14, 2011, in Gopalgarh.
A Special CBI court had asked the agency to probe the role of MLAs last year. Some accused chargesheet earlier had claimed that they were provoked by influential people for the violence.
