The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has said that political parties raising hue and cry over ‘ghar wapsi’ had remained quiet over the same event organized during Congress-led UPA regime. The organization claimed that ghar wapsi of more than 7,000 people was conducted during the UPA regime.
At a Hindu sammelan organized in Pratapgarh on Thursday, organizational secretary of Kashi Prant Manoj Srivastava said, “There is nothing wrong in ghar wapsi. It has continued for the last 30 years and thousands have benefitted from it.”
He added, “We will continue to encourage people, lured into changing their religion, for ghar wapsi. The present government is being wrongly targeted for this by the Congress under whose regime ghar wapsi of over 7,000 people was carried out across the country.”
Stating that no coercion was involved in ghar wapsi, an office-bearer said that the Parishad and its allied groups have earmarked cities in the state for ghar wapsi of minorities.
“It is for the welfare of the people who feel suffocated in religion forced upon them. We will continue our movement,” added an office-bearer preferring anonymity. Later, VHP office-bearers met to chalk out celebration programme for ‘Swarn Jayanti Mahotsav’ of the organisation.
Meanwhile, DM Bhawnath Singh denied any information about VHP planning to set up a campat Magh Mela to propagate ‘ghar wapsi’ programme. “There is no news of such an issue. We are keeping a close watch on this.”
