Central Govt. changes its stand; now to get opinions from all State Governments on imposition of ban on use of plastic national flags !
Mumbai : Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has been undertaking drive for prevention of abuse of national flags for past few years. A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed by HJS in Mumbai High Court in 2011 as it did not receive positive response from the Government. The case was heard before the Bench comprising of Justice Abhay Oak and Justice Gadkari on 8th December. The Hon’ble bench asked the Central Government about the decision taken by them in this regard. The advocate of Central Government stated that opinion was sought from all State Governments and Union Territories and so far 7 States have sent their opinions. A decision would be made after receiving opinions from all States.
The Court also asked the State Government about attempts made by them in this regard. The Government then produced the orders issued by its different departments like Rural Development, School Education etc. instructions to Tehsildars, District Collectors for collecting discarded flags from their areas and for their proper disposal; besides instructions that such flags should not to be used in schools and colleges. The next hearing in this case has been scheduled for 19th January 2015. Advocate Anand Patil pleaded on behalf of HJS.
